There’s a lot goes on in the small area of london, big business thrives and believe it or not, it has its own representation in government.
The City of London, is the very historic centre of the capital of England and contains primary business centre of London. The City or the Squarfe Mile as it is also known holds a very powerful position in the UK.
It has a certain amount of autonmy from the rest of England and this is one of the prime sources of these theories.

The city was trading with and building relationships with other countries and became very rich and powerful. This started a tradition of the english monarchy accepting that the city of london is a special place with its own laws and conditions.
However because of its power and connection a certain amount of distrust has also existed about the city through the centuries. The small villages around the area grew and expanded eventually merging together around the walls of the city of london. People started to refer to the whole area as london and eventually after an act of parliament the area was brought together as a city under one lord mayor.
The city of london retained its rights and its own lord mayor. Along with its own lord mayor the city also has some other traditions and conditions. Also the city has its own member of parliament who ensures the interests of the city are maintained.
